1. Overview & Single-Purpose Statement

ruu-lang (รู้) is a browser extension engineered by Hephaestus Soft LLC designed to deliver instant, in-context linguistic comprehension, clause-by-clause grammar analysis, vocabulary breakdown, and native pronunciation for text selected by the user on any webpage.

Privacy Architecture: ruu-lang operates entirely client-side on your device. We do not operate tracking servers, telemetry backends, or advertising brokers. We do not log, inspect, collect, or monetize your browsing history or reading activity.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

• No Browsing History: We do not track the URLs you visit or logs of websites you browse.
• No Personal Identifiable Information (PII): We do not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, or device fingerprints.
• No Keystroke Logging: Selections inside password, text input, or editable form fields are deliberately ignored.
• No Data Brokering: No user data is ever sold, rented, or transferred to third-party data aggregators.

3. Local Storage & BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) Security

ruu-lang gives users full control over their language models via BYOK architecture:

• API Keys & Custom Base URLs: Stored strictly in chrome.storage.local on your local computer. API keys never sync across Google profiles and are never sent to Hephaestus Soft LLC.
• User Interface Preferences: Customizations such as target language overrides, trigger modes, and section toggles are stored in chrome.storage.sync solely to synchronize your preferences across your signed-in browser sessions.

4. Transmission of Highlighted Text

When you highlight text and trigger an explanation:

1. The highlighted snippet is captured temporarily in-memory within the active tab.
2. A direct, encrypted HTTPS request is made from your browser to your configured LLM provider endpoint (e.g. Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, or your local Ollama/LM Studio instance).
3. The model's streamed response is rendered directly inside a closed Shadow DOM on your page. No intermediate proxy or log is stored by Hephaestus Soft LLC.

5. Audio & Text-to-Speech (TTS)

Pronunciation audio is generated locally using your browser's built-in Web Speech API (window.speechSynthesis). Audio generation is processed on-device and is never transmitted to external audio recording services.

6. Subscriptions & Payment Processing

Monetization and Pro license verification are powered by ExtensionPay (using Stripe for checkout). When upgrading:

• Payment transactions occur on secure Stripe-hosted payment pages.
• Hephaestus Soft LLC never sees, handles, or stores your credit card numbers or financial details.
• ExtensionPay assigns a random anonymous user token to verify your active Pro or trial entitlement status.
